What is a lead service line inventory?
A lead service line inventory is a detailed record of the materials from which all service line in a water system are made. The goal is to identify lead pipelines that should be replaced.
Why is it required?
On December 16, 2021, the EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Revisions went into effect. All water systems are required to submit an initial inventory of service lines to their state by compliance date of October 16, 2024. All water systems which identify lead service lines and/or galvanized lines downstream of lead service line must develop a lead service line replacement plan.
What needs to be collected?
- PUBLIC PORTION: from main to water meter
- PRIVATE PORTION: from water shutoff to building
What does it mean for residents?
The City of Herculaneum has hired Horner & Shifrin, Inc. to assist with the Lead Service Line inventory, and need your help. They are asking property owners to contact them by Click here for further details to schedule an appointment for Horner & Shifrin crews to come to their house and inspect their waterline material OR self-inspect the water line coming into their residence or business and provide information on the the material it is made from.
What do they need to collect from residents?
Horner & Shifrin will need a picture and information for the private portion of the water line where it enters the house to determine the material(s) from which they are made. This water line location could be in the basement, crawl space, or near your hot water heater.
