Volunteer Opportunities

The Herculaneum Fire Department is accepting applications for volunteer firefighters. The department is a combination fire department that is staffed with both paid and volunteer positions. The volunteer members do not receive compensation for responding to incidents. Individuals must be 18 years of age, live within five (5) miles of the city limits of Herculaneum and hold a valid drivers license. You may pick up an application at the Herculaneum Fire Station, located at 151 Riverview Plaza Drive or obtain an online copy below.

A background check will be performed upon acceptance by the department and reviewed by the department members the applicant will be either approved or declined. Once you are approved you will be required to fill out the consent to background check form, which will need to be signed and turned into the Herculaneum Fire Station.

Applicants if accepted will receive in house training during their three (3) month probationary period in fire suppression and rescue/ems services. Applicants will be reviewed during the probationary period to ensure they have obtained the necessary skill-set to perform the functions of a firefighter.
Applicants after completion of their probationary period and acceptance to the department, educational opportunities will be made available. The Department encourages that all members obtain a minimum of Firefighter I & II and Hazmat Awareness & Operations. EMT-B, EMR, Technical Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Swift Water Rescue, and other classes are eligible for reimbursement upon completion of class with a passing grade and State Certification is obtained.

Junior Volunteer Opportunities

The Herculaneum Fire Department is accepting applications for junior volunteer firefighters. The department is a combination fire department that is staffed with both paid and volunteer positions. The volunteer members do not receive compensation for responding to incidents. Individuals must be 14 years of age, live within the city limits of Herculaneum and maintain a passing grade in six (6) out of (7) classes. A copy of your report card is required with the completion of an application.
The training exposes the adolescents at an early age to many different fields such as Fire & EMS, CERT, Law Enforcement, and many other public service fields. Adolescents through in house training and college courses will have a jump start in the career of firefighting or EMS You may pick up an application at the Herculaneum Fire Station, located at 151 Riverview Plaza Drive or obtain an online copy below, parents approval required.

Junior firefighters are eligible to become firefighters of the Herculaneum Fire Department after their 18th birthday. See above qualifications.
