Flames engulfed a car this morning, July 26, on southbound I-55 in Herculaneum. The car was on the interstate’s shoulder near the McNutt Street exit.

Herculaneum Fire Department Chief Kevin Baker said his department was called at 7:42 a.m. about the blaze. He said the first firetruck arrived at 7:52 a.m., and the car was fully involved in flames.

The fire was extinguished shortly after the first firefighters arrived, Baker said.

He said firefighters were still at the scene at about 8:15 a.m.

A person was sitting in a grass area near the interstate and appeared to be receiving treatment from first responders. However, Baker said he did not know if anyone was injured because of the fire.
